County of the Month

As recognition of all the hard work the many fine volunteers of the New York GenWeb put in, I have decided to feature a different county page and coordinator each month. I have to say, though, that I have never worked with a finer bunch of people. Thanks to each person for their efforts.

HERKIMER COUNTY

MONTGOMERY COUNTY

NOTE: In mid-2008, Herkimer/Montgomery County NYGenWeb was split into two separate county sites, Herkimer County NYGenWeb and Montgomery County NYGenWeb. The Feature County of the Month of February is unique in many ways. Herkimer / Montgomery County Genweb page covers two counties: Herkimer and Montgomery. It has an extensive and exciting collection of Civil War information you won't want to miss!

It has among the finest resources to share page anywhere around.

Herkimer Montgomery has a fine collection of photos, from the very old ancestor kind to the pedigree of a different sort - brief biographical sketches of several volunteers' pets. It was the first page to be coordinated by a team, Rex Stevenson, and Martha Magill. Rex signed on early, will lots of great ideas for the website. Then one day I got an email inviting me to check out the new page, and by the way meet his partner Martha. Martha and Rex share a common research interest, the Stevensons, and that was how they first met online, and became friends and colleauges. I would be remiss if I didn't also mention the 3rd partner here, the graphics designer, Conrad Vogel.

What else can you expect to find when you stop by and visit Herkimer/ Montgomery County? Close partnerships with some of the town historians have resulted in regular features for the Towns of Fairfield and Newport. Along with very user friendly treatment for the query pages, it also has an extensive surname page.

Short biographies of some ancestors and some old-time politicians from the counties add more spice and variety to this site.

Be sure to visit this month's featured county today! You'll be glad you did.
