NYGenWeb Featured County of the Month

As recognition of all the hard work the many fine volunteers of the New York GenWeb put in, I have decided to feature a different county page and coordinator each month. I have to say, though, that I have never worked with a finer bunch of people. Thanks to each person for their efforts.

Monroe Co, NY map graphic, borrowed from the Monroe Co page December's feature county of the month is Monroe County. Monroe County, is coordinated by Dick Halsey. Richard is involved in both online and local genealogy, being the membership chair for the Rochester Genealogical Society. He also maintains the website for the Rochester Genealogical Society, and was the Exhibits Chair for the 1996 Genealogical Society Conference held last August, in Rochester, NY. Dick was the first person to volunteer for a county on the NYGenweb, and his was one of the first pages online, having been up since July 17, 1996.

Monroe County's page has many local resources listed, as well as links to the Genesee Country Family File. Detailed information from French's Gazetter of New York, as well as a page on the formation of the county can be found. Sixty five cemeteries and Church records, many of which Dick compiled, or help compile himself are also a part of the Monroe County Genweb site.
